Crazy Times

It’s a breezy, sunny day here in Argentina and things are just great.  This past week started out really well, but wasn’t the most productive, as far as the work.

On Monday we had a lesson with an awesome family who was referred by a member. One of the girls has gone to church a lot and the parents are way cool, but I'm pretty sure they aren’t married, as usual.  I don’t think Javier, the dad, has his documents to live in Argentina yet, so that would take even longer to wait for those. I haven’t even got mine yet!  We didn’t have a ton of time to visit with them because we had a family night appointment with another family and José and Margarita. When we got there, there were tons of people outside and police and S.W.A.T. everywhere (this was in the villa). We saw the member and he told us the police were going into houses to check for drugs so we couldn’t come in for family night, dang!

On Tuesday we had a normal day but not much happened. Wednesday we had to stay in our apartment all day long, it was terrible. It was the national censo day and all the people in Argentina had to be counted so we weren’t allowed to leave.  That same day, the ex-president of Argentina died. So Thursday was pretty much another day off because people went to the funeral thing they had.  I also started to feel sick (achy, maybe allergies due to weather changes) but we still went out to work. We got to the villa and I looked down the street and there was just like a huge wave of people coming our way.  We went to a member’s house in an alleyway to see what was up. It ended up being some protest regarding people in the villa.  We are not really sure why, but it was weird.  Then Friday was cool.  There was a big ward activity.  All the members came representing what country they were from.  They had food and dances and such. We (the elders) got assigned to make some food, too, but the Bishop told us to make tacos, ha-ha. So the 4 American missionaries made tacos.  Pretty American, huh?  Everyone loved them and we were the first one to sell all our food! Ha-ha it was funny.

We also learned that on Monday when the police went to look for drugs, they found about 10 main guys who sold drugs everyday and took them away.  Right now people from other areas are coming into the villa to try and take over for the people who got caught.  Right now, it’s pretty much a drug/villa war and it’s pretty dangerous so we haven’t been to really work in the villa for the last couple of days.  We haven’t been able to visit most of our investigators because a lot of them live in the villa.

Jose and Inese did go to the ward activity but not to church on Sunday so we don't know what the deal is with them. José says he’s ready to proceed but they are just lazy to get up and go to church!  Our appointment with Rodrigo fell through because the member going with us forgot he had a test that day. But he did talk with Rodrigo a little about the gospel and says he’s way interested. He was planning on going to church yesterday but didn’t get up on time, either and didn’t go.  Dang!  But we have another appointment with Rodrigo on Wednesday and are excited for that.  We haven’t really been able to talk to Mica, either, because Martina is always working or is either not home or busy.  But we saw them at the activity, too, and they are doing well.  We are still planning to go by with the Bishop soon to see when Mica will get baptized. We did have a couple investigators at church yesterday, which was pretty nice.  And we talked to Alejandro too. He wants to get baptized but said he wants to wait till December when school gets out.  He doesn’t really have a good reason for not getting baptized now. We told him to read and pray about it to see what he should do.   He didn’t go to church yesterday, either, so we will see. There’s always something! There was another guy (Modesto) that has gone to church the past 2 weeks but he says he doesn’t know where he lives so we haven’t been able to teach him yet.  Yesterday he gave us his cell phone number so we are going to go by soon.

That’s about it I think. Its been tough not being able to work as much as we’d like with all of the things that have happened so hopefully this week will be a little bit better.

Comp is good, helping me a lot. He’s been having some stomach problems on and off.  I don't think I told you, but we haven't had gas in our apartment for the past four weeks and we still don't.

Sorry nothing too exciting. But that’s what there is. Hope you all have a good week. I miss and love you all.

Love,
Drew
